Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)

UTIs are some of the most common bacterial infections diagnosed clinically, affecting 150 million individuals each year worldwide Urinary tract infections: epidemiology, mechanisms of infection and treatment options – PMC. The infection can affect different parts of the urinary tract, including cystitis (bladder infection) and urethritis (infection of the urethra), and can rarely reach the kidneys.

Common UTI symptoms include a strong and persisting urge to urinate, a burning sensation when urinating (dysuria), cloudy or strong-smelling urine and blood in the urine. If the infection is left and spreads to the kidneys, it is more severe and may cause fever and chills, pain in the upper back or flank pain with nausea and vomiting.
