Typical skin lesions that can be treated and removed include,
Skin tags
Also referred to as acrochordons, these are common, benign, small, soft, skin-coloured cutaneous outgrowths that arise from the epidermis and underlying dermis typically attached by a narrow stalk (peduncle).
Lipomas
These are common, harmless, benign tumours composed of fatty tissue encompassed by a thin layer of fibrous tissue. They present as soft, painless masses most commonly seen on the trunk but can be located anywhere on the body.
Seborrheic Warts / Seborrheic keratoses
These are common, harmless, slow growing, benign skin lesion caused by a build-up of skin cells. They often appear as waxy, scaly or raised warty papules/plaques in various colures with a described ‘stuck on appearance’ most commonly seen on the back, chest or face.
Moles
Also referred to as Nevi, are a common type of skin growth. They often appear as dark brown spots, usually harmless, that are caused by a collection of pigment-forming cells called melanocytes. They can be flat or raised, smooth or rough and can manifest anywhere on the body.
Sebaceous Cysts / Epidermal Inclusion cyst
These are benign, usually painless, encapsulated subepidermal nodules filled with keratin (a protein) material. Most commonly found on the face, neck and trunk but can appear anywhere on the body. They are often slow-growing but can become quite large (over 5cm) and often have a dark dot (punctum) in the centre of the cyst.
Giant Whiteheads / Giant Comedones
These are large (up to 2cm in diameter) non-inflammatory skin lesions caused by hair follicles becoming clogged with excess sebum and dead skin cells. These include open Comedones (blackheads) and closed Comedones (whiteheads). They are often associated with a history of severe acne

FREQUENLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What exactly do dermatologist do?
Dermatologists are medically trained doctors with extensive expertise in the management and treatment of skin, nail and hair conditions.
When should I see a Dermatologist?
You should consult with a dermatologist if your skin condition is persistent, worsening, painful or affecting your quality of life. Early assessment is particularly important for hair loss, suspicious moles or severe acne.
What should I bring to my Dermatology appointment?
Being prepared can really help you get the most out of your dermatology visit. A list of medications, both prescribed and over the counter, is helpful. As are photos of the skin if it comes and goes, or if it was worse prior to the appointment. Any previous treatments and responses to these. Finally, writing down any questions beforehand makes sure all your concerns are addressed.
What should I expect from my first Dermatology appointment?
Most first-time dermatology appointments start with a conversation about your skin concerns, how long you have had them and what treatments you have already tried. The dermatologist will also ask about your general health and family background. Your skin will be examined; this may include the use of a dermatoscope to look more closely at specific areas. Finally, you will get a diagnosis or at least a plan for further testing (blood test/biopsy) if things aren’t clear. Treatment may be started straight away, or you may be asked to return for follow-up. You will leave the appointment with a better understanding of your condition and what the next steps are.
How long will the Consultation last?
Approximately 20-30 minutes.
Do you offer Private Prescriptions?
Yes. A clinical letter giving details of your diagnosis and treatment options will be sent to your GP, and a private prescription can be provided (where suitable).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR MINOR SURGERY
Do I need a GP referral for Minor Surgery?
No, you will see our consultant dermatologist initially to make a formal diagnosis and to make sure the lesion is appropriate to be excised.
Who will do my Minor Surgery Procedure?
All our minor surgery procedures are carried out by a consultant dermatologist with extensive experience, so you can be reassured that your operation is carried out to the highest standards of safety and efficacy.
What is the Aftercare?
You will be given clear instructions on how to care for your wound. Every patient will be provided with a patient information leaflet explaining the dos and don’ts. All stitches used are self-absorbing (dissolvable), so there is no need to have these removed, as they will fall out all by themselves. You will be provided with the contact details of the clinic in case there are any concerns in wound healing or if you have any further issues you would like to discuss.
How long will my Minor Surgery Procedure take?
This will depend on the type of surgical procedure being used and the size of the lesion being removed. Most operations are completed within 15 minutes but can take up to 1 hour for multiple lesions, especially larger, deeper lesions that require more extensive sutures to close the wound.
Is it Painful?
No. All procedures are completed under local anaesthetic. You will feel pulling and pushing during the surgery but not pain. If you do feel any discomfort, it’s important you let the consultant know.
How long will I need off?
For most excisions it is important to have a period of time off (usually 3-6 weeks), avoiding strenuous activities such as the gym to reduce the risk of wound dehiscence (reopening of the wound). This is especially important for areas of the body that are prone to tension, such as the back. Your individual circumstances will be discussed with you during the appointment.
Will all Samples/tissues be sent for Analysis?
Yes. All lesions removed at Clinic 360 will be sent for histology, confirming the diagnosis and providing you with full peace of mind.
