Neil Smitherman 


Neil qualified as a physiotherapist at Leeds Beckett University. In addition to his physiotherapy degree he holds a further 2 degrees in Sports Science and a Masters in Strength and Conditioning.

Neil has helped a wide variety of people from elite athletes in rugby league to endurance athletes and people who have chronic back pain and other day to day health issues.  Neil also lectures at Leeds Beckett University, teaching clinical skills and anatomy

He has a primary interest in rehabilitation through exercise, particularly:

  • Treatment of tendinopathy through progressive loading either as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other interventions, such as an ultrasound guided injection.
  • Shoulder rehabilitation of rotator cuff related pain, recovery from traumatic shoulder injury and late-stage frozen shoulder treatment
  • Knee and hip rehabilitation to help patients with osteoarthritis, lateral hip and knee pain and pre and post-surgery strengthening.
  • Running related injuries, reviewing athlete’s training load, joint mobility and strength.
